Electroporator

Electroporation is a molecular biology technique in which an electrical field is applied to cells in order to increase the permeability of the cell membrane, allowing DNA to be introduced into the cell (Wikipedia).

Electroporation is an alternative technique to transformation using chemically competent laboratory strains of E. coli with plasmid DNA. Electroporation is performed with electroporators like our lab’s Eppendorf Eporator, purpose-built appliances that create an electrostatic field in a cell solution. The cell suspension is pipetted into a glass or plastic cuvette which has two aluminium electrodes on its sides.
