Since 2015, Open Science Network’s community laboratory has been a space for learning, experimenting and innovating aimed at citizen scientists, students, hobbyists, innovators, and professionals. The laboratory is a biosafety level 1 lab geared predominantly towards biology experimentation and open hardware creation. The laboratory has recently expanded with much more bench space than previously available.
Safety of the people who engage, learn and explore at Vancouver’s first community science lab is paramount to us. Open Science Network is fully committed to providing a safe laboratory environment for all of our members, visitors and the folks in the MakerLabs community. Projects are reviewed in detail to ensure they comply with the societies safety guidelines. Experiments are carried out with strictly non-pathogenic organisms like yeast and laboratory strains of E. coli. Safety and equipment training is required and is provided to all members.
The OSN Community Lab offers a wide range of laboratory equipment and some supplies for our supporting members. Below is a partial list of the lab’s resources with some featured equipment.
We accept donations of lab equipment and supplies. Do you work in or know of a lab that is turning over equipment or shutting down? Contact us! Please don’t just drop it off as we need to ensure OSN will be a good home to it.
